On May 28th the Summerfield Town Budget for fiscal year 2008-2009 was submitted to the Town Council for their review. The budget is available online at www.summerfieldgov.com and a copy may be picked up at Town Hall during regular office hours.
This year the budget process was enhanced to provide more in-depth discussion and analysis for Town Council including reviewing demographic and fiscal trends, issues on the horizon regarding state law changes, and reports from committees and staff. In addition, the Council adopted a Vision Statement for the Town of Summerfield that provides overall guidance to town staff and committees as they develop work plans to meet the goals of the Council.
The budget provides a spending plan for the continued development of recreational and athletic facilities, development of a comprehensive plan, and administrative support for planning, parks and recreation, and administrative services.
The proposed $2.8 million dollar budget includes a property tax rate of $0.035 per $100 of assessed value; which is a 10% decrease from last year’s rate of $0.039. The owner of a $350,000 house would pay $122.50 in town property taxes. This is in addition to the Guilford County and Summerfield Fire District tax rates.
Citizens will be given the opportunity to comment on the budget at a public hearing scheduled for Tuesday June 10th at 6:30 pm at the Summerfield Community Center.
